This being our first year living in more than 800 square feet, we were thrilled at the idea of having enough room to get a full sized Christmas tree. Since evergreens growing "wild" are a bit scarce in this part of the country, we decided to do the next best thing and go to a Christmas tree farm to cut one down ourselves. Search and Destroy were super excited because we got to ride in a trailer towed by a tractor out to the tree farm. After searching for a very chilly but sunny 30 minutes we found one that we liked. Did I mention that it was fa-reezing? Here I am carting the boys around in the tree cart. They liked that too until it got too cold to shiver.
Cutting down tree with Daddy
Same as above
Our tractor driver was one awesome hick, chaw and all, and kept calling the boys "little buddy" over and over. He was nice enough to take our picture. Yes, the things we do for blogging.
It's been almost a week since we got the tree, and we finally decorated it tonight. We've been so busy! Destroy was really into putting the decorations on. After a while I noticed that none of the ones I gave him to put on the tree ended up on the front. When I walked around to the back, I saw that he had put them all on one branch. Sweet, looks like he got his Dad's artistic ability to decorate.
It's hard to see, but we put the tree in the front window for everyone to see. We live on a dead end so that's not a whole lot of people. Oh well.
I thought it would be fun to play Megan Stewart this year and get all fancy. Although I'm too cheap to get the glass ornaments until the after-Christmas-clearance, I did get some sweet ribbon with the good ole Joann's coupons and got all crafty. And I got a pre-Christmas clearanced star too.
Yesterday I asked the boys if they knew what bribery was. Of course they didn't, so I explained. Now, whenever Destroy wants a cookie, he justs asks if we can take a picture in front of the tree. Clever little devil.
Now if I can only get husband to put the lights up on the house... What kind of bribery should I use for that?

I bribed Mike with a round of golf ~ that even got him to put the lights way up top! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun cutting down the tree! We went to "Happy Valley Trees" this year. Yea, nice name, I know.
Just so you know if you need more ribbon, Costco has super cute Christmas ribbon ~ 50 yards(yes, it really is that much) for $7!
You guys should use that family picture for your christmas cards. Fun!
Speaking of . . .I need your new address. Will you email it to me?
Cute tree! That's a fun idea to go to a tree farm. I like your decorations--you're pretty crafty! And, maybe try bribing Aaron with 2cookies---more is always better, right? :)
How fun! And you picked out such a pretty tree. I love the smell of fresh trees, but we've gotten grinchy in our old age and just put the fake one up every year. So not the same, but it's convenient.
Good luck with the house lights. I have to give props to Owen for getting up there and doing it every year, though. I know he doesn't enjoy it. I try to sweeten it a little by getting it all organized beforehand, so all he has to do is get them on the house.
And I don't think I have your new address either. . .
I loved so many things about this post. The careful, thought-out decorating of the single branch. The shot of the most picture-perfect tree in the lot. The family picture- and how your boys will model for treats. I love it!
Megan, I always love reading your blog. Your family is just so cute. I've discovered that Hailee will do a lot of things for a square of IKEA chocolate. Although I am getting a little low on chocolate around the house now.
