I Love Craigslist But Not Tornados

After a couple months of searching stores and checking Craigslist everyday, we finally found bunk beds! The kids are beyond excited and fighting over the top bunk like all siblings do. The nice thing is, since we still have Search's crib up in his old room we can still toss him in there if he's not staying in bed. Wonder what time he'll wake up in the morning? I decided to fit in with the locals today so I tied the new mattress to the top of our car and drove home. It was raining and I had to pull over a few times to let annoyed drivers pass the white trash mattress-topped-car. My top speed of 35 wasn't good enough on a 50 mph road.

Destroy thought he needed to pose for the camera and show off his monkey moves.
The best part about this new purchase is that it's a bed. That means they sleep in it. That means I'm done until tomorrow.Unfortunately, our bedtime routine was uprooted a bit. Out of the blue, a freak thunder storm came and went. Thunder, lighting, screaming, soothing, the whole bit. On top of that, the tornado warning goes off which freaks the kids out even more. Not to be outdone, my over-protective husband announces that we all have to huddle in mom and dad's closet for one hour because the tornado touched down about 10 minutes north of here. Our walk-in-closet is the safest room (if you can call it a room) in the house. Imagine four people in a very small space, two of them being two very tired little boys, one extremely worn out mom and one tired Dad sandwiched between two night shifts. It wasn't a pretty scene. But, we're still here. It took Destroy longer than normal to fall asleep tonight on account of the "torneedles".

Freak thunder storms in january, tornado warnings.

Welcome, to the midwest, Megan.

No joke, I almost called you when I saw on the news that the tornado was heading your way! Was this your first tornado experience? Yes, welcome to the midwest and soon you will find yourself looking out the window to spot the "torneedle", rather than hiding from it.

Whoa! Crazy about the tornado! I'm sure I'll always remember being at the Liberty Jail when a tornado hit and tore the Visitors' Center's roof right off! What a CRAZY day! Those sirens are SO loud and scary too. Poor little boys! I'm glad you're all okay! And...I LOVE the bunkbeds! That's exactly the kind I want to get someday. I love the "wood" look. And, I loved the prayer in your other post. Your boys say the funniest things!

Wow, crazy. Those always look so scary. Happy you guys are ok. Maybe if there is a next time, the boys will want to look for it! But, maybe that's not so safe. Ok so maybe I don't know what I am talking about either because we never have anything like that out here in boring Eagle Mountain. Can't wait to see you guys in a few months!

Tornados scare me. I hate those sirens.

Megan, your life is so exciting! Cute beds, and cute mental image of the four of you huddled in a closet...

I lived in Michigan for 3 years during middle school and I remember those tornado sirens. Those were fun times!

We hid in the downstairs bathroom the first year we were here in Indiana and Brandon was first born. We were also covered with a blanket too. Mike was paranoid. They say to go in a small room that has no outer walls to the outside. Wait until the spring (April and May),... there are more thunderstorms/ lightening and "torneedles" too. This time I was kind of oblivious to it all. I even open the binds and the kids and I watched the lightening and listened to the thunder while the sirens were going off. I didn't think to check the news and see that the tornado was only blocks away from us. Mike called us of course from the hospital to warn us and keep us safe. Then I went out (Mike does not know), drove with the kids to CVS on the corner of where the tornado hit to pick up a prescription that same night. I was clueless.

The bunk-beds are great as well!

Destroy is great at prayers! :)

Since I grew up in the midwest, I was always bummed when we had to go the basement. I really wanted to see the Twister - so much so that when I saw the movie Twister, I honestly wanted to become a tornado chaser. Now I live in Kansas with a husband PETRIFIED of tornados. So I have to feign concern, when really I think Noelle and I should run outside in the green sky. Good luck and just wait until your kids learn how to do a tornado drill at school. So fun.
