So... I feel like I am starting over with the whole baby phase. It's been a few years since we've dealt with bottles and binkys and booster seats. Oh my! Even naps and diapers seem a thing from the distant past. Search will be almost 4 when this baby comes! In Mormonland I'm way behind in the child-bearing category, but I needed some space from the baby phase and time to recover from Search and Destroy in the younger years. Now I'm starting to gear myself to be prepared for midnight feedings, a nap time schedule and doing things with only one hand again. But mostly I'm trying to prepare myself for the lack of sleep that will come, and with that, crankiness on my part. Crankiness too often turns into me yelling at the kids. So, I'm already praying for help with that. I figured a head start wouldn't hurt :)
Anywhoo... I just have a couple of questions for y'all. Even though we have enough baby boy clothes to clothe a small country, we do need a couple of things for this child. The changing table that the boys jumped to death for instance and a bouncer that shouldn't have, but was used so much by a toddler that it sat on the floor and was no longer able to, well, bounce. My questions for you are:
Did you use a sling for your baby? If so, did you like it? And what kind was it?
What about the Bumbo? My babies tend to take a while to learn to sit up so it seems like it would be a nice thing to have, but it's pricey. Has anyone used one?
Are there any other baby items out there that are especially helpful? Any info is helpful!

Megan! I know what you mean about "starting over"... I've got 9.5 years between Nolan and Miles.I'm wishing you a mild mannered little boy. My first was really hard. My second was "typical". Miles is easy... finally a great sleeper! Aly had a sling... she didn't love it. She also had a Bumbo. Her boys didn't love it either. However, I borrowed her Bumbo and Miles loves it! He hates baby seats that recline him, but the Bumbo is a hit! Good luck with everything!
I had a sling with Little C ... which I loved. It was a ring sling. I realized how indispensible they are when you have older kids that don't want to slow down. This time I've had the Moby Wrap, which I'm in love with. Baby doesn't really like the ring sling, but the Moby works like a charm to get in to sleep.
Good luck. For me, having a baby in the newborn stage is like removing a bandaid. You just got to rip it off. It hurts, but it has to be done. You'll have a sympathetic ear here if you ever want to vent :)
I'm a sling believer! I love having the baby close and love having my hands free. I got mine off the internet. I'd just make one, if I were you. good luck!!
P.S. Miss A was almost 4 when Little C was born, and it was so much easier than the 2 year gap ... she was potty trained, in a bed and independent. I'm being reminded this time around why that was so nice :) I bet your transition will be smoother than before!
I really can't help you with that one =) but I'm glad you posted! I have never seen you pregnant... maybe it's a 1st timer thing... but I want to see pics =)
OK, the moby wrap is better than the sling I would think because it wont tweak your back. It also can fit baby in it until they are 30-40lbs I believe, and they are SO CUDDLY. I really love it. We like the bumbo a lot. That is what we use as his high chair right now. He is just starting solids.
My favorite things are definitely
1. bouncy (The cheapest one from Target)
2. Moby wrap
3. kiddopotomus swaddler. LOVE IT. Velcros the little sucker in tight.
I know how you feel... even though there are only 3 years between Britt and this new kid, I feel like I have to learn everything all over again! Plus they come up with so much cool baby-gear all the time, it's hard to keep up with what's good and what's just a waste of money. :) Brooke will tell you about how much Emelyn loves her Bumbo though... the price is a bit much, but if it keeps them happy, it's worth it. :)
(I can't wait to read all the tips and advice people give you on this post... I want to know this same stuff!)
I was trying to remember some of the things I used with Lexi (you know...6 years ago) and realized they don't even make half of those things anymore! So...I would love for you to share some of your good findings with me so that I may also put them to use in June!
I'm right there with you about starting over. Hailee will be almost five. The one thing I'm exciting about trying this time is a "bebe au lait" nursing cover. My friend had one and she loved it.
I had just started to get a taste of freedom when Logan was born. It was so hard to be tied down again. I tried the sling, but that doesn't really go with acid reflux. But, if you do a sling, definitely do the ring sling. I want to try it again with the next one. I loved my bouncer, just because it was more portable. But, Alyssa loved the swing, especially the one that rocked side to side. Honestly, the one thing that I don't live without (beside the paci :)) is an infant feeder. It makes those feedings of solid foods soooo easy with no clean-up! I was really surprised with Logan....I hardly used any of the baby conveniences (that I used nonstop with Alyssa). I just laid a blanket on the floor and he had a lot of tummy time!
I can't wait to see pictures of your new little one. I love the sling. I use the New native Carrier- I think it's around $40, or at least it was when emma was new. I liked it because it came in black, so most of the time people don't even know I'm wearing a baby. That way they aren't tempted to sneak a peak. It leaves my hands free to hold on to my other two when we go out, or for when I need to make dinner. I've never heard of a bumbo- but I think I want one now
Try www.craigslist.com. It's SO easy to make nursing cover-up (hooter hider) Just pick out your own fabric and sew in some boning (sp?)
Lot's of people also make their own slings.
I am an old friend of Aaron's and his families. I ran across your question and thought I could help. There is a store in chico that sales these wraps called "Mobee wraps" and they are the best things around. It's this huge piece of cloth that you wrap your baby in, on you, and you can do anything while your baby is sleeping. Your in-laws can pick one up for you at this shop called Bella something (it is down the street from your father in laws offices, I can't remember the name.. Bella something)
Good luck to you.
wow, i love that your boys are friends (granted after a lot of struggle) i really want lizzy to have a friend, i think she's getting a bit sick of me not wanting to do stuff with her all the time.
I always wanted a bumbo, with liz, but pricey and never got one, but my friend gave me me a couple months ago so i'm anxious to try, i think they are awesome, but we'll see. I also want a sling, but have no advice for one, sorry. i am defenitely starting the baby phase again too, so i'm a newbee too. Anyway it was so fun to hear from you, i wish we were closer, so we could go throught this stage together. yes, i'm due march 27th, so we will probably be very close. hope all goes well the next couple months for you, i know i'm hitting the extremely uncomforable stage. soooooooo fun!
