I made some pretty yummy ranch dressing the other day, a Boyce recipe. Last night the boys wanted to have a picnic. So I packed up a dinner consisting of sandwiches for the boys, grapes, apples, and some broccoli and carrots with ranch for me. To my complete surprise, as soon as I opened my container, the boys wanted what I had (well, that's not the surprise). The surprise was that they actually chewed, and swallowed broccoli. A green item that much resembles a tree, as we call them in our house.
Maybe it was the fact that it was my dinner, maybe it was the fact that we were on a picnic, maybe it was the fact that they smothered them in ranch dressing. But the fact that they ate and liked it is the only thing that matters to me. And even if they never eat it again, which is very likely, I will cherish this day forever. If I had a journal, I'd write about it in there too.
First corn, then bananas, now broccoli and carrots. I never thought this day will come. Maybe there's still hope for green beans, potatoes, squash and even spinach!

Cute! I'm impressed...I'm still waiting for Ellee to embrace veggies. She used to LOVE pureed pumpkin and squash...but, not so much anymore. I made a ham and broccoli quiche the other day...and she actually ate a ton of the broccoli. I guess I just had to cook it and disguise it a little. I'm still waiting for her to get some top teeth, maybe that'll help her be able to eat more veggies. Who knows?
That's awesome! I love the pictures. You guys are such healthy eaters. Jake ate two baby carrots the other day and I was speechless. He actually asked for them without prompts, and it was the same day he peed on the toilet. It was a day that will forever go down in history in our house, because it might not happen again for a very long time!
I am surprised you had your camera with you to take the photos. Do you take it where ever you go? Vegies are a tricky thing with kids. My kids can still pick it out of foods when I try to disguise it. All I can say is start young!
Yeah for green vegetables and the kids who willingly eat them!!!
Hey guys, I just found your blog by finding Emma's. How's it going? your boys have changed so much!! The Smiths are doing good here in California. I thought maybe you were coming here, but we didn't hear, and then found out you're way the heck out there (trying to keep your blog secure). Anyway, we have a blog at thesmithsfunnyfarm.blogspot.com if you want to know what we're up to!
cheers!
Megan! I can't believe you have kids that grown-up! And totally cute by-the-way! It didn't even take the entire bottle of ranch to get them to eat broccoli too! I swear my Britt would eat a shoe if i dipped it in ranch dressing!
